Tarragona Biblical Museum was founded in 1930 and is located in the Casa dels Concilis (House of the Councils) by the side of the Cathedral. The visitor will find a rich collection of materials, archaeological, literary, artistic and didactic which illustrate the fascinating world of Judeo-Christian culture.

The interpretation space of the historical evolution of the acropolis of Tarragona, Tarracròpolis, allows visitors to take a journey through twenty-three centuries of history and learn about the historical evolution of the Part Alta of Tarragona (historic centre) and, specifically, of the House of the Councils, where structures from Roman times to the air-raid shelter of the Spanish Civil War are documented.

The interpretation area exhibits an epigraphic collection consisting of fourteen inscriptions from all periods, two architectural models, a collection of historical engravings and a set of coins from the Iberian period to the present day. The visit allows you to see the Roman remains of the Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès (Regional Council of Tarragonès) and the Biblical Museum, part of the air-raid shelter and the area of historical cisterns in the basement of the Museum.

The air-raid shelter

Within the Tarracròpolis area of the Tarragona Biblical Museum, you can visit the Civil War air-raid shelter used between 1937 and 1939. Extraordinarily well preserved, it is structured on two levels and reaches a maximum depth of about 10 metres below street level. With the Museum ticket, you can visit the first gallery of the shelter. The second gallery can only be visited with a guided tour.
