Building used to store and display the traditional items used in the Seguici Popular (literally, the "popular retinue"), a parade held in honour of the city's Santa Tecla Festival, which has been declared both an Official Spanish Tourist Attraction and a Tradition of Catalan National Interest. The displays offer a historical perspective on the ceremonial procession, as well as its pre-eminent co-star, the castellers, or "human castle" competitions. These are some of the most important intangible assets in all the Catalan Countries and can trace their origins back to street performances in mediaeval Europe as early as 1321: even today, they are characterised by mass participation. The Casa de la Festa (literally, "Festival House") is located in one of the few remaining examples of local industrial architectural heritage and is the successor to an earlier site that existed in Tarragona from the mid-15th century on. The current building traps the revelry and enthusiasm of Tarragona's main festival, which takes place from 15th to 24th September, in space and time so that visitors to the city can discover the magic year round. It includes three exhibition halls, which immerse visitors in the celebration, and a fourth hall for audiovisual displays, where modern technology is used to recreate the excitement of the emblematic festivities.
