In Tarragona, the castells, or human towers, are a deep-rooted tradition

Few emotions match that of experiencing a day of castells (human towers). In Tarragona, the four local colles start the season for Sant Jordi, but from June onwards the most intense season begins, in their eagerness to reach the highest point by adding the efforts of hundreds of castellers. Tarragona also offers the possibility of living this Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity experience with even more intensity and authenticity, with the City of Human Towers programme. To top it all off, every two years the Human Tower Competition takes place, the world´s biggest casteller show, with the participation of the best castellers on the first weekend of October in the Tarraco Arena in the largest, most competitive and exciting human tower event around.

'Colles castelleres' (human tower groups) of Tarragona

The city has four colles castelleres (human tower groups), which also raise four daring human towers for Sant Jordi, Sant Magí and Santa Tecla.
